Episode 15 – Puppy Power!

The Door 14 Hockey Podcast returns once more, and this time it’s all gone to the dogs, but we’re going all out and applying some puppy power!

Have a look below at some of the nonsense we chatted this week and have a read of some of the sources too. We couldn’t do much without suckling off their teat!

As always, we start by looking at the standings in both the EIHL and the NHL…makes for good reading….unless you support the Belfast Giants, Toronto Maple Leafs, Minnesota Wild, Philadelphia Flyers or the Nashville Predators!

NHL Standings

As always, we try to get you link to the most recent Giants games of the last two weeks, so here they are! The Giants felled the Flyers, Flames and Steelers in the last fortnight, with only the Panthers getting the best of them.

This week’s big story is of course the Giant’s game in Sheffield and the incident between the Giants’ Spiro Goulakos and Steeler Colton Fretter. Have a look below and let us know what you think of our thoughts on it and the likely DOPS results.

Is Spiro in trouble (probably)? Is Fretter a douche (absolutley!)

The guys quickly chat about the hilariousness of a multi-year contract in the Elite League…and Spring(er) into full on micky-taking mode! Will we be proved wrong? We doubt it!

We have a laugh at the antics of the Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL) and their new ‘call-outs’ post season arrangements for this year, then quickly realise that maybe it’s not the worst idea ever to reward the top teams with the ability to pick their opponents!

We expect it will look similar to this:

Did you know that John’s off to Canada?! Well now you do, and you can keep up to date with his progress as he goes out to see both the Canadiens vs Kings and the Senators vs Canadiens in Montreal and Ottawa and visits the Hockey Hall of Fame on Door 14 Hockey’s Twitter and Instagram!

Do ya wanna bet?! Wait…isn’t that someone else’s catchphrase? Never mind. The 2018 Winter Olympics are just around the corner, and with that comes the ample opportunity to place a wee wager, but with NHL stars missing out, who’s worth punting your hard earned quids on?! Have a look here and have a listen to what we thought.

PyeongChang 2018 Hockey: Who’s worth a punt?

We chat a little about Guildford’s jerseys…..how and where can you get one of these? Is it a consipracy between Guildford and Calgary and does not being able to buy one breach hockey fans’ human rights? We think so! We hope to hear more soon from Guildford themselves or fans! Know what the craic is with this, let us know.

The Philadelphia Flyers and Nashville Predators are amongst the teams getting stuck into ensuring the cutest pups around are finding their forever homes!

Conor McDavid continues to pull filthy moves on other teams across the NHL. Can he start to make a difference for them and get them back into winning ways?

We discuss the ever rotating wheel of EIHL DOPS and decide we’re actually getting sick of talking about them really…aren’t you!? It’s like watching a bingo game every week….

We end this edition by discussing our favourite hockey music following the passing of Canadian music giant and hockey linked Gord Downie of the Tragically Hip. We pick some of our favourites, and can’t help but have our teal specs on for that one, with Tell Me Ma’, Blur’s Song 2 and Embrace’s Celebrate (remember that video Giant’s fans?!) coming out on top….but Marty and Dave drop some proper clangers too! Have you got a favourite song from or about hockey? Let us know!

What did you think of this edition of the Door 14 Hockey Podcast?

Let us know, we want to hear from YOU! If you have anything you want us to chat about, get in touch with us via our social media outlets on Facebook, Twitter and now, Instagram!
