With a depleted roster Marty and John carry on as normal to discuss the early days of EIHL action. The lads discuss challenge cup, officiating, Stanley cup damage, leaked jerseys, the dangers of playing hockey at work and all the usual bits and pieces you have come to expect from the Door 14 Hockey Podcast
EIHL Officials and Teams getting to grips with new rules
The new IIHF rules have caused a fair amount of conversation across the EIHL, with the new rules around face-off violations and late hits being the big two.
Racers taken to the races by Billingham
NIHL newcomers and the new face of hockey in the Scottish capital, the Murrayfield Racers had a tough introduction to the competition as they were run out of their own building in an 8-2 loss.
Goal or no goal?
A tying goal in the dying seconds of the Clan vs Flyers game at Kirkcaldy Ice Arena caused some controversy on the ice this past weekend, but what do you think – did the puck hit the back netting, should the goal have stood, should the Clan just play to the whistle?

The curious case of the import and the pre-existing ban
NIHL side the Bracknell Bees parted ways with import forward Karel Richter after just one game for the side, due to an import ban being carried over from another player (Frantisek Bakrlik) last season, and it’s fair to say, the reaction was a little heated towards the NIHL.
No more ‘doing the Ovi”, says NHL
It’s fair to say that we at Door 14 Hockey, along with most of the hockey world, loved watching Washington’s Russian renegade enjoy his time as a Stanley Cup Champion, especially that keg-stand, but that’s not the feeling in NHL tower apparently!
Arise, Sir Pacioretty!
The Montreal Canadiens moved to trade Pacioretty to the Vegas Golden Knights, but who got the best deal here?!
Look out your winter jersey, or at least the leaked ones!
Looks like the surprise of the season may have been ruined, as the 2018 Winter Classic jerseys for the Bruins and the Blackhawks may have been leaked to the internet early…but are they worth the leak?
When a bit of fun goes wrong real quick
This is what happens when hockey fans ruin it for everyone in the workplace….

Prank Flower gets the Pens
The Prank Champ of Vegas, and maybe the whole NHL got to work at the League’s press tour when he targeted some old locker room mates!
hockey season is around the corner
but prank season never ends

Tridents stick it to ’em
We also want to say a massive well done and stick-tap to the NI Tridents, who put on a great game and performed admirably against the USA Senior Select team last week at Dundonald Ice Bowl. It was a fantastic game and we look forward to getting down to more as the season gets going!
As always, we share our thoughts on our teams or players that have been outstanding since our last recording, or a goal that you just have to see to believe!
Player:
Marty kept it close to home, and didn’t have to look any further than returning Belfast Giant forward, Darcy Murphy’s hat-trick display in Fife, scoring ALL of the Giant’s goals in their second competitive match of the season! What a start from the dangle master Darcy!
Goal:
John couldn’t help but go for the barn storming, and somewhat ironic, first goal in Sheffield’s arena this season by former Steeler Andreas Valdix, on his ‘homecoming’ in an MK Lightning jersey!
Maybe Thommo’ should have thought more about those returning players!
NIHL
Billingham Stars forward James Moss suspended 2 games for fighting +5 points vs Solihull Sharks https://twitter.com/NIHLhockey/status/1038460926670843904
EIHL
Sheffield Steelers #13 Davey Phillips suspended 1 game checking to the head and neck
Glasgow Clan #11 Matt Haywood suspended 1 game abuse of official
Dundee Stars #43 Fabrizio Ricci suspended 1 game for slew Footing
NHL
The NHL continues its battle against performance enhancing and recreational drugs (I guess) as Golden Knight Nate Schmidt was handed a 20 game suspension for breach of the CBA regarding drugs, but the twist in this tale? The Knights are standing firmly behind their man…we await a resolution on this one…
What’s That Hockey Team?!
The Seattle franchise is looking for name suggestions and they’ve got a few for you the chose from – Do you have a good one for them that’s not on that list? Let us know!
